Privacy policy

1. Data controller

Data processing is carried out by Thomas Feutren, operator of Tapotons. You can contact us at contact@tapotons.fr.

2. Collected data

Tapotons only collects data strictly required to provide the service:

No sensitive data is collected. Payment data is processed by Stripe and never stored by Tapotons.

• login data (email, hashed password)
• first and last name when voluntarily provided
• public nickname, Google profile picture when provided, and your visibility choice for the daily challenge global leaderboard
• subscription status and payment history
• learning preferences and progression data, including speed, accuracy, mistakes, completed exercises, and activity days

3. Purposes and legal basis

Your data is used to:

• create and manage your account (contract performance)
• provide access to content and features (contract performance)
• handle support requests (legitimate interest)
• display your public nickname, profile picture, Premium status if applicable, and best score in the daily global leaderboard by default; you can turn off this display at any time in your account settings
• improve the Tapotons learning method and produce statistical studies about touch typing from progression and performance data (legitimate interest). Results intended for publication are first aggregated and anonymized; they contain no identifier or individual result
• comply with legal and tax obligations (legal obligation)

4. Retention period

Account data is retained while you use the service and then deleted within up to 3 years after account deletion or last activity, except where legal retention obligations apply.

Intermediate extracts used to produce statistical studies are retained only for the time needed to calculate and verify them, and are then deleted. Effectively anonymized results that can no longer identify an individual may be retained and shared on a long-term basis.

5. Data recipients

Data is only accessible to authorized Tapotons staff and essential providers (hosting, payment, messaging, anti-abuse).

The daily challenge global leaderboard is visible to anyone visiting Tapotons. By default, your public nickname, profile picture, Premium status if applicable, and best score in words per minute are displayed there. You can turn off this display at any time in your account settings; your results remain saved for your personal history but are no longer shown in the global leaderboard. The friends leaderboard is separate.

Statistical results published outside this leaderboard are aggregated and anonymized first; they contain no identifier or individual result.

6. Security

Technical and organizational measures are implemented to protect your data. No system is infallible; use a strong password.

7. Your rights

Under GDPR, you can request access, rectification, deletion, restriction, objection, and portability by contacting contact@tapotons.fr.

You can withdraw your choice to appear in the daily challenge global leaderboard at any time in your account settings.

You may specifically object to the future use of your progression data for statistical studies by contacting contact@tapotons.fr. This objection cannot remove a contribution from an already published result when that result has been effectively anonymized and can no longer be linked to your account.

If needed, you may lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.
